The taxes commercial truck carriers pay on diesel and gasoline increased in July as several states experienced an increase, according to the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy.
At least eight states increased their gasoline tax rates on July 1 in an effort to keep pace with growing gasoline prices. The growth in fuel taxes is a challenge for many carriers, but it’s not the only one being faced these days. The majority of truck carriers are also challenged by a shortage of professionally trained truck drivers which are needed to help meet growing demand.
While truck carriers are faced with many challenges, including a driver shortage, it means opportunity for many jobseekers who complete the CDL driver training program at Hamrick School. The trucking industry offers a stable career with higher than average starting pay when compared to many other job sectors across the country. This career also offers a unique challenge and positions on both short- and long-haul routes are in demand. That is why many jobseekers are considering a career as a professional truck driver, which offers higher than average starting pay and a stable career. The trucking industry has been experiencing strong growth in recent years and many labor experts predict that another 500,000 professionally trained commercial truck drivers may be needed over the next decade.
That means drivers with professional training from respected driver training programs, like those offered at Hamrick School, are finding success in landing a job at some of the nation’s top trucking companies. Career services personnel at Hamrick School consistently work with some of the nation’s top truck carriers to help students find the job they are looking for in this growing field.
