How Truck Drivers Can Protect Against COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic has made truck drivers more important than ever. They’ve been on the front lines delivering medical supplies and other essential items across the country. However, this has also put drivers at risk of contracting the coronavirus. Here’s a guide to staying safe and illness-free on the road.

3 Ways Truck Drivers Can Avoid COVID-19

1. Wear a Face Mask

If you’re at a rest stop, hotel, or another location where you’ll be within 6 feet of another person, wear a face mask. This will help protect you and the other individual against the virus.

However, keep in mind that the masks are most effective when you also wash your hands frequently and avoid touching your face. If you’re using a disposable mask, throw it out after using it, and then clean your hands with soap and water.

2. Be Careful About Where You Eat

This is the perfect time to load up on ice, keep fresh food in a cooler, and eat in your truck. This will help you avoid contact with others, limiting potential exposure to the virus.

If you do grab a meal at a restaurant, order takeout instead of eating indoors. Also, when getting snacks or food from a convenience store, buy items in bulk so you can limit how often you need to go inside.

3. Stay Safe in Public Showers

If you drive long distances, you may need to use a public shower occasionally. Bring shower shoes or flip-flops with you to protect against COVID-19 and bacteria on shower floors. Also, don’t use hair or hand dryers, as they can blow invisible surface matter around, potentially exposing you to droplets from others. Instead, use a towel to dry off. Also, always bring your own soap and shampoo, as many businesses have made cuts and may not restock as often.
