Healthy Eating for Drivers

During their last week of classroom training, students in the Master Truck Driver Training program planned, prepared and cooked a healthy meal as a part of their Driver Health and Wellness class. To follow with the program, the meal must be well-balanced and healthy, and must be based on the criteria learned in their “Healthy Eating for Drivers” lesson. Students must be able to prepare and cook this meal in a truck using only the cooking tools and utensils available in a truck, simulating a real-life situation once they start their driving careers. Truck Stop Field Trip!

Recently our students have visited the Blue Beacon Truck Wash in Seville, Ohio. They learned about the services available and how important is to keep their rigs clean. They also were able to watch a tractor being washed. After the truck wash they visited the TA and Pilot truck stops. They found out what services are offered and what kinds of tools and accessories are available for drivers to purchase. They also were able to talk to professional drivers and get firsthand knowledge of the trucking industry.

Guest Speaker Don Miller from Railroad Traffic Control

On Friday, October 11, Don Miller from Railroad Traffic Control was a guest speaker in the classroom and talked about railroad crossing safety. He explained how crossings are activated and talked about the timing of tracks. He also showed photos of actual crossings in the area, and explained what to lookout for. Railroad Traffic Control is a national company that engineers, constructs, installs, and maintains highway crossing signal systems.
